First Scholarship Awarded

We are excited and proud to announce the awarding of our first full scholarship! The scholarship will allow Khanya, our first recipient, to attend Glenwood House, one of the top schools in George.

Khanya is from Thembalethu township and attended Glenwood's pre-primary with the help of a generous teacher who sponsored her in grade 0. This teacher has now moved on, and Khanya would not have been able to continue her education at Glenwood if not for your generous donations, which allowed us to award her a full scholarship. Here she is outside her grade 1 classroom:

Our endowment fund has not quite reached the required level of capital yet, but the board of trustees felt that we need to start our scholarship program sooner rather than later. Our hope is that you, our partners, supporters, donors and clients of Wild Wings Safaris, will generously contribute to our trust fund to ensure the future sustainability of this scholarship. Will you help fund Khanya's education? If you can pledge a once off or monthly donation toward the trust, it will directly benefit Khanya.

A big thank you goes to Glenwood House school, which has significantly discounted the school fees for Khanya and helped to make this scholarship possible. These are humble beginnings but we are excited about the future, and in particular about Khanya's future in this case.

Khanya has proven herself to be a dynamic and clever girl who learns and adapts quickly. She is friendly and very well-mannered, and always full of smiles! Socially she is confident and gets on well with everyone. Academically, she performed in the top half if her grade 0 class, in spite of being one of the youngest, having only turned 6 at the end of her grade 0 year.

This month (January 2015) she starts grade 1 and we have full confidence that she will get through primary school with flying colours! Khanya, we are proud of you and we wish you all the best at Glenwood!

Update: Khanya has completed primary school

Congratulations to Khanya on successfully completing grade 7 at Glenwood House! Khanya was sponsored by the Wild Wings Educational Trust from Grade 1 to Grade 8, and has now chosen to continue her high school career at another good quality high school. We wish her all the best!

Update: Scholarship program on hold

During the pandemic, when global tourism ground to a halt thanks to lockdowns and travel bans, donations to the Trust dried up completely. We continued supporting Khanya up to the end of her Grade 8 year. Over the last three years, our scholarship fund has dwindled to unsustainable levels and the program has been put on hold for now. We will relaunch the scholarship program when the necessary capital has been raised to ensure a sustainable endowment fund, before reopening applications to additional students.
